Insights Why Jean-Philippe loves working in the transportation planning team

Transport planning in Canada is becoming an increasingly central role. Following the announcement of Transportation 2030, there's been a noticeable shift toward focusing more on building a national system that enables that economic growth and job creation. For people like Jean-Philippe Akélaguélo, it's an exciting road ahead.

Jean-Philippe is a Team Leader and Project Manager in the Eastern Canada Transportation Planning Team. We caught up with him to find out more about his role and why he couldn't see himself anywhere other than AtkinsRéalis .

What is your role at AtkinsRéalis ?

I am a Team Leader and a Project Manager in the in the Eastern Canada Transportation Planning Team.

Transport planning is important because we perform studies to optimize the movement of people. I work on traffic lights, bus lanes, bike paths, etc.

What is the best thing about your job?


I like finding solutions to problems. Especially in the area of human mobility, which is a multifaceted field that combines advanced technology, human behavior, and engineering. Going to work or meeting friends in a park should not be difficult, dangerous, or polluting. We can help individually and professionally. I love that my work leads to concrete solutions for citizens and their communities.

Why do you love working at AtkinsRéalis ?


Being a transport planner means that I get to be in contact with a community of people from all horizons. There is a buzz of initiatives so that everyone can be a player in the company and the company benefits from this diversity.

What is your favorite book and why?


Wild Town by Jim Thompson because we should beware of "losers".

What is your favorite quote or your motto in life and why?


Today is the first day of the rest of your life. I sometimes tell this quote to myself as the deadlines pile up.
