The UK transport sector is delivering the largest and most ambitious changes the sector has seen in a generation.

Significant growth is being driven by long-term funding commitments from Government in recognition of the critical role that strategic connectivity plays in supporting economic growth. Our clients face key challenges in defining and delivering their long-term programmes, maximising the value of assets, and embracing new technologies so that they can deliver the best outcomes for users and for the economy.

These challenges are driving the need for change in the way our clients do business enabling them to deliver their investments and meet strategic priorities.

Our Team thrives:

Based in our Transport Consultancy and Advisory (TC&A) practice, our Business Transformation team is supporting leaders to think differently by re-aligning their strategic priorities, providing support to re-organise their businesses and develop processes to support new operations. We help uncover and then overcome cultural and organisational challenges which are hindering success.

We do this by:

  • Putting people at the heart of all we do and taking time to understand what really matters,
respecting knowledge and complementing it with our own, and
committing to valuing, inspiring, and empowering everyone to be successful - ensuring organisations, projects and programmes have the best chance to deliver on their commitments.
  • We believe that both our own and our clients’ organisations, projects and programmes thrive because of people; their culture and strength of relationships. Engaged and motivated people, in the right environment and with the tools, capabilities and recognition they need, will thrive.

The Individuals:

  • We are looking to recruit talented individuals who are passionate about leading excellence in transformation and complex business change.  Like our team, these individuals will take pride in delivering an authentic and hands-on-approach to understand our clients’ business challenges and help achieve their ambitions.
  • The roles we hope to fill will enhance our existing business consulting expertise: strategy setting; organisational and operational design; implementing and managing transformational change programmes, including cultural and behavioural leadership; business performance improvement; benefits realisation; and complex stakeholder engagement.
  • You will have responsibility for managing client-facing work from the outset, building, and fostering a network of professional working relationships, where you understand and help our clients solve multi-faceted business issues. As a highly skilled and experienced member of the team you will lead projects and workstreams, bringing together the skills of the team and wider business, to deliver measurable outcomes.
  • You will be expected to support achievement of challenging operational and consultancy revenue targets, undertaking bid management and delivery activity, and providing input to the development and delivery of our transportation strategy.
  • The roles can be based in any of our London, Epsom, Birmingham, Manchester, or Cardiff offices. Travel to attend client sites across the UK and overseas, as required, is key.

What you can bring:

We are looking for people that bring a blend of consulting capabilities and a deep understanding of transformation techniques to suit different situations. These might include:

  • Strategy development - both business and delivery.
  • Operational improvement and organisational development.
  • Business process improvement - continuous improvement.
  • Change and implementation management.
  • Cultural and behavioural development.
  • Organisational research and analytical tools.
  • Communications and employee engagement.

In particular we are seeking individuals with excellent client-facing experience developing and leading teams to deliver:

  • Complex business change – developing and implementing change strategies to drive positive transformation (including developing new and improved Operating Models).
  • Cultural change – developing and implementing cultural initiatives to enable change across organisations and teams to achieve positive results.
  • Operational Effectiveness – driving identification and realisation of operational effectiveness improvement plans and/or operational excellence strategy.

You will need to:

  • Hold at least a degree or equivalent qualification (post-graduate qualification and relevant technical certifications in change/business development activity would be desirable).
  • Hold or be willing to work towards Chartered Management Consultant (ChMc) status.
  • Be able to lead across competing tasks and operate successfully even when under pressure.
  • Be a highly collaborative individual; developing and maximising the value of stakeholder networks within and outside Atkins, including with our market facing teams.
  • Have well-developed emotional intelligence with the ability to flex your style to suit different stakeholders and support others in your team to do the same as part of wider development activity.
  • Demonstrate the potential to work as part of a highly collaborative team, supporting team dynamics and prioritising team goals to help develop the business.

It is also essential that you can provide technical assurance of other’s deliverables, have excellent written communication skills, and can present, deliver, and oversee outcomes which are compelling, accurate, and engaging both to clients and in support of our business development and work winning activities.

A background in the Transportation or the Highways sector is of interest but is not essential.
