AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Digital Systems Engineering Intern to join our Los Angeles, CA or Austin, TX office.

Our Internship Program, Explore, is designed for college students pursuing a degree in a STEM field and provides opportunities to learn what it’s like to work in a professional environment and apply what’s learned in class to the real-world challenges we face every day.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Applies standard engineering practices and techniques in digital processes which may include the following:
    • Configuring and managing Power Automate flows to streamline project tasks across various lifecycle stages.
    • Creating and maintaining Power BI dashboards for data visualization and reporting, ensuring alignment with project lifecycle metrics.
    • Developing database tables, SharePoint lists, and other data stores for use in engineering process management.
    • Assisting in configuring design software environments for project use and integration.
    • Creating and deploying training documentation on processes.
    • Supporting the setup and management of pipelines to deploy software and processes on new/existing projects.
  • Participates in engineering workflow design and optimization across a wide array of engineering domains, including rail, water infrastructure, civil, industrial, and other domains, focusing on improving the efficiency of lifecycle processes and stage gates.
  • Assists in the planning, design, and production of engineering projects, ensuring that standard frameworks, such as company quality processes, are followed.
  • Prepares sections of digital process reports under the guidance of a more experienced professional, ensuring adherence to lifecycle standards.
  • Performs data acquisition and analysis, researching the feasibility of alternative digital solutions, system configurations, and workflow automations.
  • Assists in programming and deploying pipelines for automation, data integration, and continuous delivery (e.g., DevOps) in accordance with system lifecycle models.
  • Independently modifies system workflows and tools to meet client needs, following lifecycle process guidelines.
  • Uses VBA, Power Query, Power Automate, Power Platform, Python, or other programming languages to support workflow automation and tool customization within defined lifecycle processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the digital systems engineering needs of the project.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EXPERIENCE: No experience is generally required if accepted into a Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field. Exposure to or experience with digital tools and workflow automation (Power Automate, Power BI, Python) is preferred.
  • EDUCATION:
    • Must have completed 60 hours towards an engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship.
    • Must have working knowledge of at least one programming language and/or low-code/no-code programming platform, such as, but not limited to:
      • Microsoft Power Automate
      • Zapier
      • Unreal Engine Blueprints
      • Godot Visual Script
  • SPECIAL SKILLS:
    • Cursory knowledge of engineering projects, lifecycle processes, and systems engineering principles (ISO 15288).
    • Basic programming skills (Power Automate, Python, or any other relevant language).
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform tools (Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint).
    • Ability to work with and enter data in spreadsheets or databases.

Expected compensation range is between $25-$31 per hour based on skills, experience, and geographical location.
