Electrical Engineer - Rolling Stock

Job Description:

In this role you will be responsible for the delivery of electrical engineering projects to clients or internal project teams.  We are looking for you if you can:

  • Understand client requirements and aspirations to identify and agree scopes of work.
  • Deliver high quality work to agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Ideally, have good knowledge of at least two of the following rolling stock areas, and the desire and ability to develop your knowledge within other areas:
    • Traction equipment.
    • ETCS and signalling.
    • Auxiliary systems.
    • Train control and safety systems.
    • Diagnostic systems.
    • WIFI and infotainment.
    • Energy metering.
    • Pantographs and current collection equipment.
    • Train maintenance and fleet management.

Example work activities:

The role does not require applicants with experience in these areas. They are provided as examples of what you could be doing with us:

  • Design scrutiny / standards compliance assessment for electrical systems on new-build and modification projects.
  • Integration of new technology including decarbonization and ETCS projects.
  • Performance analysis for journey time and energy consumption.
  • Undertake Project Management roles for projects managed by the Electrical Engineering team.
  • Identify technical, commercial and safety risks associated with projects and ensure these are managed through each project phase.
  • Provide peer checking/approval of technical proposals and project deliverables.
