The Head of Geotechnical is responsible for leading the geotechnical engineering team in the development of The Line project. This role requires a deep understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and practices, as well as the ability to manage a team of engineers and technicians. The Head of Geotechnical will be responsible for overseeing the design and implementation of the geotechnical aspects of the project, including soil and rock investigations, foundation design, slope stability analysis, and seismic analysis. The Head of Geotechnical will also be responsible for ensuring that the project meets all applicable safety and environmental regulations.

Key points of responsibility            

  • Oversee geotechnical engineering activities for the project
  • Develop and implement geotechnical engineering plans
  • Monitor and review geotechnical engineering activities
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards
  • Manage geotechnical engineering staff
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders
  • Prepare and review geotechnical engineering reports
  • Monitor and review geotechnical engineering budgets
  • Provide technical guidance and support to geotechnical engineering staff
  • Identify and resolve geotechnical engineering issues
  • Develop and implement geotechnical engineering strategies
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure successful completion of the project

             

Essential skills and qualifications needed for the role

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 25 years of experience in geotechnical engineering
  • Professional registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Demonstrated experience in geotechnical engineering design and analysis

Professional Registration:

  • Professional Engineer (PE)

General Competency & Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering principles

Core Competencies:

  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and practices
  • Knowledge of soil mechanics and foundation design
  • Knowledge of geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring
  • Knowledge of geotechnical laboratory testing
  • Knowledge of geotechnical software

Software Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software such as Plaxis, GEO5, and/or Slope/W

Special Skills:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment
