Job Overview 

The Risk Manager will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing risks associated with the metro rail project during the Design & Build (D&B) phase. This role involves developing and implementing risk management plans, ensuring compliance with risk management protocols, and providing support during the construction supervision phase. The Risk Manager will work closely with various departments to ensure the successful execution of the project.  

 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Work with client project teams to gain understanding of projects, interrogate client issued documentation (scope, schedule, estimate). 

  • Facilitate risk workshops, ensuring suitable records are kept of discussions. 

  • Be able to interrogate cost information (usually excel) to classify project costs in terms of client, design, contractor costs, and extract contingency. 

  • QA checks of all documentation prior to issue to client. 

  • Develop and update internal risk management training materials. 

  • Maintain & regularly update internal processes, procedures and work instructions to ensure consistent business approach and alignment with corporate strategy. 

  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of identified risks. 

  • Identify, monitor and review potential risks related to the project, including financial, operational, and safety risks and update management plans as necessary. 

  • Assess the likelihood and impact of identified risks, prioritizing them based on their potential impact on the project.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant risk management protocols and standards. 

  • Provide regular risk management reports to the client and internal stakeholders, highlighting any significant risks and mitigation measures. 

  • Engage with stakeholders including contractors to ensure their understanding and support of risk management activities. 

  • Coordinate with the management teams and other departments to ensure a holistic approach to risk management. 

 

Qualifications and Educational Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred. 

  • Professional certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Risk Management Professional (RMP), or equivalent are highly desirable. 

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Minimum of 10-15+ years of experience experience in risk management, preferably in the construction or infrastructure sector. 

  • In-depth knowledge of risk management principles, construction contracts, and industry standards. 

  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple risks and stakeholders effectively. 

  • Manage multiple project workloads concurrently, able to prioritize work. 

  • Be able to use @Risk to generate cost model information, creation of modelling for various scenarios. 

  • Be able to interrogate MS Project and P6 to recreate a high-level schedule for modelling purposes. 

  • Manage creation of slide decks, executive summaries, and full reports for each project – using standard templates, create draft text.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks specific to large-scale infrastructure projects. 

  • High level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in risk assessments and mitigation plans. 

  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team in a high-pressure environment. 

  • Manage client project team relationships to continue project risk management support. 

  • Experience in managing complex projects, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex risk information clearly and concisely to stakeholders at all levels. 

  • Proficiency in risk management software and tools, as well as a strong understanding of engineering and construction processes.
