Our collaborative and multi-disciplinary team is one of the largest in the UK, providing water and wastewater infrastructure services alongside drainage design, SuDS and surface water management.  Our wide variety of clients span across the UK and internationally and include UK water companies, local authorities, highways / rail authorities, and developers.

AtkinsRéalis Infrastructure business are looking to appoint a Practice Manager to lead our Networks & Drainage Solutions team in the London and South East region.  Reporting into the Networks & Drainage Solutions Practice Director you will be responsible for leading a regional team of talented individuals to deliver some of the most exciting infrastructure projects across multiple sectors.

The Practices are the ‘technical powerhouse’ that forms the foundation of our organisation. As Practice Manager you will work collaboratively with the other N&DS Practice Managers to achieve targets, exceed client expectation and drive innovation.  The successful candidate will therefore need to be committed to having technical excellence, consistency in delivery, knowledge sharing and innovation at the heart of the practice.

Your Purpose:

  • Lead a regional practice team recognised for technical excellence and ability to flexibly respond to business needs.
  • Work collaboratively with other Practice Managers in the Practice to ensure the Practice operates as a national discipline stream, sharing information and resources such that the Practice meets its aims and overall performance expectations.
  • Network with other Practice Managers to share information, resources and balance workload, collaborating locally on business development and delivery initiatives.
  • Working with the Professional Head of Discipline and Technical Authorities in the Practice, support the Practice Director with workforce planning including skills development and recruitment. 
  • Support collaborative working with the Practice Digital Lead to facilitate the development and implementation of new tools and products.
  • Provide line management and supervision, oversee career & talent development and manage employee performance.
  • Achievement of headcount and productivity targets within the region.
  • Liaise through the Practice with the Market teams to establish resource demand based on pipeline of opportunities in collaboration with divisional resource managers.
  • Maximise component of resource group work delivered from the GDC.
  • Act as a Project Manager or Project Director and undertake technical delivery as required.
  • Responsible for winning work through maximising additional/repeat/follow-on work from clients.
  • Drive innovation and value in our service offerings.
  • When needed support business development with technical expertise.
  • Ensure that business activity conforms to the Business Management System (BMS) and does not present an unacceptable risk.
  • Act as Project Manager or Project Director taking responsibility for the financial performance and delivery of projects and/or frameworks.
  • Ability to develop/maintain strong client relationships.
  • Lead teams and deliver projects.

  • Experience working in the discipline of Clean Water, Wastewater, Surface Water Management or Drainage Design.
  • Able to lead the regional practice team to maintain its reputation for technical excellence and quality of delivery.

  • Strong collaborative behaviours to interface with Practice Director, other Practice Managers, Market teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Able to build and motivate a team, demonstrating good management qualities and be a role model for staff to aspire.
  • Strong communication skills to interface with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • A high expectation of performance for themselves and other members of the team, coupled with a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Degree level and Chartered in relevant discipline.

Security clearance:
