We are seeking Project Engineers to join our growing Net Zero Energy Business. This position would be based in Glasgow, Leeds, Bristol or Stockton , with a flexible mixture of home-working and office/site collaboration time expected. (Other home office locations may be considered).

Our Net Zero business unit is a multi-disciplinary team that offers a stimulating variety of work, from feasibility studies through to detailed design, site surveys, design verification and site-based project work. Within our Net Zero Engineering Business, the team has a focus on diversifying the energy mix in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. This includes power generation (from gas, biomass, hydro and nuclear), natural gas cavern storage, hydrogen (production & cavern storage), and industrial decarbonisation.

Your Purpose:

You will be coordinating engineering or construction tasks for and on behalf of our clients or taking responsibility for delivering packages of work. You’ll enjoy working with others and are prepared to deliver projects at client sites (e.g. North East, East Midlands, or in South Wales ) as part of Atkins site based engineering delivery teams and / or through regular site visits during key delivery phases.

Do you enjoy a wide variety of tasks and projects? We are looking for someone versatile; you could be working on a small individual assignment or as part of a larger, multi-disciplinary team. You will enjoy working closely with clients on a range of demanding issues.

Examples of the types of work you will be involved in:

  • Integration/ coordination of engineering activities across multi discipline design teams.
  • Management of technical requirements from concept to detail design and delivery including application of strong change control.
  • Design management of the overall coordination of design entities to ensure delivery of engineering to schedule.
  • Delivery of safe, constructable and commissionable solutions (design, procurement or construction activities).

What you can bring?

  • You have experience of being involved in either engineering or construction projects, delivering to time, cost, quality and safety, particularly in the detailed design and construction phases, and are able to demonstrate your application of project engineering skills, across projects with various technical challenges.
  • You are a fantastic communicator and are able to integrate quickly into diverse multi-disciplinary teams. You have an ability to self-motivate, get the best out of other team members and deal with conflict, in conjunction with a strong delivery culture.
  • You are an organiser, but are also adaptable and have a ‘can-do’ approach.

In addition to having strong communication skills, key attributes include the following:

  • A degree or HNC/HND in a related engineering-based discipline (e.g. civil /mechanical/ process / electrical / C&I).
  • Experience of project engineering and working in teams.
  • Proven experience of multi-disciplinary design/procurement activities and driving design/procurement teams to deliver on time.
  • A strong quality, safety, security and environmental focus.

You may also demonstrate a selection of the following desirable requirements:

  • Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., power, chemical, oil & gas).
  • Experience of site-based operations, construction or commissioning.
  • Knowledge of safety on construction sites, including risk assessment techniques.
  • Experience of the pre-tender and tender stages of procuring contracts for the design, manufacturing and/or installation of industrial equipment.
  • Commercial awareness including construction contract type, terms and conditions.
