Senior Planner / Associate Director - Energy Power & Renewables

The Project Planner works as part of the Project Control team to develop, monitor, progress, report and integrate project and schedules so that projects can be executed in the most efficient manner possible.

This role is a strategic position which works with the following teams to interface services:

  • Projects and/or Turnaround Planning.
  • Operations - Control of Work (CoW).
  • Engineering & Maintenance.
  • Process Development.
  • Procurement & Contracts.
  • Construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in Interactive Planning and Construction Lean Planning Sessions – ensuring that comprehensive schedules are developed using industry best practices and site benchmarking data.
  • Ensure constant alignment between Engineering, Procurement and Construction Make Work Ready plans and Integrated Primavera Master Project Schedules – working with Contractors and project stakeholders to auto-populate the Make Work Ready and Lean Sheets from Primavera, ensuring that Master Schedule is the source of all plans.
  • Support the “forward” planning of Engineering, Procurement and Construction during early project stages, utilizing preliminary concept and design information and target “Issued for Construction” and “Received on Site” milestones for field mobilization.
  • Work to align scheduling across all Construction Projects, establishing the Construction Planning best-practice from a Project Controls perspective (including post-IFC Estimate validation) and ensuring these practices and standards are being adhered to and achieved.
  • Develop Construction Scheduling Templates utilizing historical benchmarking data and norms.
  • Work with stakeholders to Identify resources and man hours required to complete project activities and maintain accurate estimate to complete man hours throughout duration.
  • Certify that Field Performance updates are being captured in the Project Schedules, and progress captured remains accurate at all times.
  • Understand how to fully build and maintain an organized, integrated EPC schedule using CPM, resource loading, Work Breakdowns, Baselining, coding, and cost accounts.
  • Communicate the plan/schedule to all project team members on a consistent basis.
  • Perform schedule analysis and report findings, including critical path(s), longest path and slippage analysis. Assist in developing recovery plans.
  • Utilize critical path analysis and what-if scenarios to fully support the project team.
  • Prepare planning/scheduling reports on a consistent basis against set Baseline targets.
  • Ensure all activity links are logic-driven and are aligned with project deliverables, Project Execution Plan (PEP), Contracting Strategy and Workface Planning.
  • Account for approved change orders in the schedule and analyze their impact on the project.

Key Challenges & Complexities of Role:

  • Driving a sustained improvement in cost performance through accurate and timely use of management  information.
  • Supporting culture change through using relevant KPI’s to drive performance and focus on delivering desired AtkinsRéalis outcomes.

Experience and Expertise:

  • Significant experience working in a project portfolio environment.
  • Experience as a planner/scheduler on facilities capital projects, including design and construction phases.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of modern planning and scheduling principles, methodologies, techniques and tools.
  • Proficient in using Primavera Version 6.
  • Good understanding of Isometric drawings and Engineering 3D Models.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to cooperate well within a team environment.
  • Experience in either of the following industries such as: Power & Renewables, HVDC, Energy & Power generation, Offshore cabling, Windfarm is essential .
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).

Education:

  • Relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering or Project Management.
  • Affiliation with a Chartered body or a recognised Project Management Institution.

  • Cost Engineers, Estimators, Project Managers, Engineers, Construction Manager.
  • Key Internal Stakeholders including Project SPA’s, Business Development.
  • Maintenance Planners, Turnaround Planners and Construction Contractor.
