Role Summary

Working as the Technical Director – Geotechnical & Tunnels for AtkinsRéalis Australia, you will be representing our brand to support growth across the local and international markets. You will be providing in-depth knowledge and leading technical discussions with our clients, ensuring design deliverables of projects are maintained to standards and delivered successfully.

You will lead the technical tunnel design and provide input into a diverse range of renewable energy and infrastructure projects nation wide, with a focus in rock mechanics, tunnels and cavern design.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyse and prepare reports for projects relating to tunnel, geotechnical and structural designs.
  • Ensure appropriate technical standards, quality assurance and safety requirements are maintained during design and construction
  • A strong understanding in materials testing and scoping objectives to support geotechnical investigation and design recommendations.
  • Contribute to winning work by assisting with proposal submissions, developing new business opportunities and growing client relationships
  • Mentor junior engineers in technical design delivery
  • Internally deal with the discipline team and Technical Leads, GTC team and interdisciplinary teams
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams in Australia and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions
  • Work closely with the Geotechnical Team Lead and Director of E&D on business development and opportunities
     

Desired Skills, Experience and Capabilities

  • Extensive experience in the Renewable Energy and Water market, ideally with a focus on Australian projects
  • Strong numerical modelling experience using various geotechnical/structural software packages (eg. PLAXIS, FLAC, Wallap and the Rocscience suite)
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work
  • Proven tunnel design experience and strong numerical/analytical capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills and the ability to lead underground & geotechnical design teams.
  • Experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, work planning and commercial management.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering and ideally CPEng/NER
