AtkinsRéalis is in search of a Senior Substation Designer to work within a multi-discipline team to design efficient and reliable electrical substations.

Location – Toronto, ON

Your role within the team:

  • Assist Design engineer in developing electrical substation facilities including site and bus work layouts, ground grid drawings, plot plans and elevation drawings for outdoor substation equipment.
  • Assist in developing Switchgear room and Control room layout drawings for substation projects.
  • Assist design engineer to develop underground cable routing conduit and trench plan layout and sections for distribution network.
  • Perform simple estimates using data from the utility material database.
  • Assist Design Engineer to prepare electrical material requisitions and performance specifications.
  • Prepare Bills of Materials and Cable Schedules.
  • Guide and supervise the team of designers and drafters to ensure quality of drawings is maintained.
  • Perform peer reviews of the drawings prepared by designers & drafters for compliance to utility CADD Standards.
  • Assist Design Engineers in the preparation of Power Single Line Diagram, Relay and Metering One-line diagram and Communication architectural block diagram.
  • Maintain complete project documentation with respect to all design packages.
  • Maintain good working relationship with internal groups that support the project.
  • Reports to the Engineering Manager.

The ideal candidate:

  • An associate degree in electrical engineering technology from a recognized Institution.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience as Designer in the field of Transmission and Distribution is considered to have gained the required experience for the position.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, ProjectWise and Electronic Document Management Systems is a must.
  • Experience in Hydro One and Toronto Hydro CADD Standards is a must.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
