Technical Writer

Based out of our Vancouver or Montreal office, the Technical Writer will be responsible for providing writing and editorial support primarily to the Proposal Managers but also to the bid team in general.  The successful candidate possesses the skills and aptitude to handle the responsibilities outlined below, combined with a demonstrated ability to multitask, and collaborate well with cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams.

The Technical Writer will join a successful, collaborative, and creative team and be responsible for writing and editing complex, multi-volume technical proposals to win new business. Using your superior writing skills, you will translate technical information, resumes, and the company’s project experience into readable, concise, and professionally formatted documents.

Your role within the team

  • Drafting of technical and general sections of proposal texts for service offerings in Power, agri-food, pharmaceutical and industrial markets and ensure the rationalization of all works.
  • Participate in the drafting and revision of technical proposal narrative in support of projects in the engineering and project management sectors.
  • Provide support to Proposal Managers and the bid team in reviewing RFP documents including, but not limited to, scope of work, attachments, and schedules.
  • Support proposal team with assessment of customer needs and constraints to develop win themes as applicable for the creation of a proposal.
  • Coordinate with various departments to gather input and assist with the development of proposal deliverables.
  • Interview subject matter experts to gather or verify information and use the output of interviews to draft new copy or update existing copy.
  • Enhances and edit resumes and other corporate experience and tailor them to the client/pursuit objectives.
  • Review proposals for adherence to business strategies and ensure client scoring criteria is maximized.
  • Apply appropriate level of editing; clarify text and graphics for thought, continuity, applicability, and readability as well as adherence to the business unit’s standards and styles; create headings and subheadings, check and correct grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, spelling, inconsistencies, and formats on technical proposal documents.
  • Research, write, rewrite and edit materials for response development within proposals and edit tailored boilerplate/templates.
  • Stay informed of the business unit’s products, technologies, and services.
  • Participate in content and library management to ensure all available information is stored in SharePoint and remains up to date.
  • Provide mentorship and training to team members as it relates to writing skills.
  • Work with graphic designer to develop graphic content.
  • Lead development of necessary presentations to support presentation of proposals to clients.
  • Identify weaknesses in a document and provide creative improvements.
  • Assist the bid team with various proposal coordination tasks as required.

The ideal candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science or Business is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience as a technical writer or in a similar role
  • Proficiency in MS Office and working knowledge of data repositories. In particular, highly advanced MS Word skills is required.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with experience in business and technical writing.
  • Efficient and productive with acute attention to detail.
  • Proactive nature, particularly with regards to ensuring all departments provide deliverables by established deadlines.
  • Flexible with the ability to work well under pressure to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
