How did you come to work as a Business Intelligence Consultant?

Before this, I worked as the Client Relations Officer for the Atkins Site Operations business. My role was to establish a strong relationship with the client’s senior management, resolve disputes, ensure timely debt recovery, identify new opportunities, and support commercial activities for all ongoing projects. At Atkins, I have always been encouraged to develop in the direction of my interests. My move to Business Intelligence consultant has definitely combined my love of data with my people skills.

Why is Atkins a great place to be?

Atkins is one of the most highly-regarded engineering consultancies in the world. So, if you're a young professional like me, it’s incredible exposure to learn and develop a growth mindset. I work with some of the best people in the industry. And I've been able to soak up their knowledge and insight as I work on self-development.

What do you enjoy about being part of the organization?

One of the things I love about the business is that everybody’s voice matters. We're all equals, and we treat each other with respect. We're always improving – removing all bureaucracy, and elevating equality so that everyone knows they're essential to the organization. Together we're a powerful force, thriving forward.

Why is collaboration so crucial to Atkins?

In the CFT, all eight members are from different areas of the business, and collaboration is key to every decision. We challenge our own and each other's ideas while supporting each other in everything. It means we can all be the best we can be.

How is diversity one of your team's superpowers?

Having people from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs, all working together makes every day a learning and fun experience. Our team brings together new and creative ideas from people with different exposure in so many markets and economies. It helps us to analyze the best solutions to problems.

How has your team's diversity helped you achieve excellence?

When the CFT was tasked to develop a visioning exercise to identify the priorities of the Middle East & Africa (MEA) business. We tapped into each employee's unique knowledge and perspective through a detailed survey. We had a high response rate. After looking at the results, we identified the top three SDG's that staff felt the business should focus on.

We then developed an interactive workshop. It brought employees together from across the region to discuss these top SDGs in more detail and create a refined list of initiatives. The workshop was a great success, which led to the CFT conducting further analysis to settle on which drives would provide the highest impact to the business.

This was only possible with diverse, collective thinking. We challenged each other’s’ ideas to reach the best outcome. Each of us brought something unique to the table. And now we're working with senior leadership, sponsors and key stakeholders to achieve the results and implement the strategy across the Atkins MEA business

What one amazing thing has Atkins helped you discover about yourself?

I love to interact with people and learn something about them! 😊

How are your teams thriving together at Atkins?

Extremely well! And we're always trying to do better. By looking at things from a different perspective, we can continuously improve, understanding one another and learning from our leaders.
