Our growing Social Value Service Line supports our engagement with clients, our service offering and the communities we work within. As a result our team members gain experience of some of the world’s largest and most challenging projects, working with a diverse range of clients and communities in different countries, and across many sectors including water, oil and gas, power, renewables, infrastructure and the built environment.

Atkins are looking to appoint an Associate Social Value Consultant to support the development of Social Value Consultancy Services within our UK & Europe business. We are flexible about the sector you come from as it is more important to us that your experience and drive comes from wanting to create better communities for everyone, in environments that we all want to live in and be a part of.

Roles & Responsibilities

Some of the core activities the role will involve: 

  • Developing and implementing social value policy, strategy and frameworks for clients

  • Managing engagement with clients, communities and other stakeholders

  • Developing, managing and implementing social value delivery plans for clients and project teams

  • Working collaboratively with team members and support other parts of the business with their win work

  • Creating social value collateral through case studies and social impact reports

  • Producing social value calculations on projects including forecasting, monitoring and evaluations throughout a project lifecycle from feasibility, design & specification, construction and operation

  • Creating strategies to embed social value in procurement for clients

  • Managing and monitoring community investment through projects for clients

  • Developing, delivering and reviewing local impact assessments, socio-economic assessments, community engagement strategies

  • Supporting the delivery of social value assessments for Government Appraisals (SBC, OBC and FBC)

  • Working collaboratively with other technical specialists within Atkins (eg Natural Capital specialists, Economists, Stakeholder Engagement, Transport Planners) in order to enhance the wider Atkins’ offer

  • Help understand, and map, our clients’ maturity around social value and identify opportunities to improve our approach.

Some of the things we require you to demonstrate and evidence or have an interest in developing within the role:

  • Demonstrable experience of working with and influencing stakeholders

  • Experience of managing Social Value (or aspects of social value activities), ideally in the Transportation, Built Environment or Infrastructure sectors

  • Ability to identify and understand needs of local communities/stakeholders in order to drive forward impactful outcomes

  • Experience with supply chain management and engagement including Meet the Buyer type events

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision to deliver high quality, engaging and client focused outputs

  • Good project management skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to support and direct junior team members

  • Ability to create and maintain strong relationships with our clients’ promoting social value services and other services from within Atkins Ltd

  • Good understanding of the methodologies surrounding impact measurement and monetisation of social value

  • Good understanding and knowledge of social value policy and legislation in the context of public sector and central government

  • Experience of developing social value strategies and delivery plans to embed social value in client projects.

  • Experience of working on Government Appraisal business cases within the built environment

  • Experience of writing bids and creative thinking for social value responses to win work

  • Communication and active listening – Ability to fully understand client needs, communicate complex solutions

  • Experience of creating and implementing social value policy and strategies for large organizations in the Built Environment, Infrastructure or related sectors

  • A relevant qualification in social/environmental/natural science or similar subject

  • Desirable 5+ years of industry experience

  • A strong technical understanding of social value, economic impact, environmental management, corporate responsibility or sustainability

  • Experience of delivering social value projects and programmes working in a client-facing role

This role is intended to be a full-time role however we are open to part time working as well.
